### Sidama

Once harvested, the coffee cherries are carefully processed using the washed method, a technique that enhances clarity and brightness in the cup. The cooperative’s processing methods preserve the natural fruit-forward flavors and delicate aromatic notes.

### Journey Across the Ocean

After processing, the beans are exported to Hamburg, Germany, where they undergo thorough inspection, sorting, and preparation for roasting. This ensures that only the highest-quality beans reach the roastery.

Rye Island Roastery

### where coffee comes to life

In Dunajská Streda, this coffee enters its final—but crucial—stage: **roasting at Rye Island Roastery**. We roast each lot with dedication and respect for the farmer’s work: we test profiles, roast in smaller batches, and monitor every step to draw out **the maximum flavor, sweetness, and complexity** from the beans. We make sure that the coffee that reaches your cup is of the **highest possible quality**—a true reflection of the journey that began on a farm in Colombia and culminated in our roastery on Rye Island.

Design

### Which connects the farm and the roastery

 ![Porkolo aug27 16](https://ryeisland.com//assets/uploads/_transforms/other/_coffeeOrigin/porkolo_aug27-16.jpg)

In each of our designs, we seek to connect the origin of the coffee with us—Rye Island Roastery, the place where carefully selected beans are transformed into the final product.
For us, design isn’t just about packaging. It’s a visual narrative of the coffee’s journey—a long journey from the farmer to your cup.

The waves on the label symbolize the dunes of our region, which stretch across Žitný ostrov—a land of water, wind, and movement.

The icon on the packaging references Brazil and features an eye motif—a symbol of attention, experience, and inner focus. The eye represents the gaze of a farmer who watches over his coffee trees, the weather, and the soil every day. In Brazilian culture, it also evokes protection from the evil eye and respect for the balance between work and nature.

Together, these elements create a connection between Colombia and Slovakia, between the farm and the roastery, between the place where coffee is born and the place where it is transformed into an experience in a cup.
